Level: 2
Purpose: To teach players to field the ball out in front
Equipment: Baseball cap, Glove, Ball
Description: Fielders will routinely field the baseball too close to their body. This drill will help them learn to field the ball out in front of their body.
Execution: Have your players place the bill of their hat into their mouth, with the back of the hat facing away from them. The coach then rolls the ball to the player. The hat will obstruct their view and force them to place their hands further out in front to be able to field the ball. Continue to stress the fundamentals while they are fielding. Make sure players are reaching out to the ball and not fielding the ball blindly.
Saying: Field in front. |
